Client Goals – client is a book wholesaler whose goal is to outsource the processing of returned books. Product must be returned to client sorted by:
-title
-good separated from damaged product
-price stickers must be current
-EAN format barcodes must be replaced
-case counts must be consistent by title and cases must be labeled
In addition, inventory needs to be reported as sort project progresses.
Final inventory counts must distinguish good vs. damaged product by title.
Touchpoint Solution – Truckloads (700,000 pieces) of unsorted, returned books are received at Touchpoint. Books are inspected as they are removed from cases. Good product is separated from damaged. Current price sticker is verified for each piece of good product. Bar code format is inspected and a replacement bar code sticker is applied if an EAN format barcode is found.
Shelving is laid out in numeric sequence by ISBN number (title). Books are sorted by title and placed on shelving. As quantities accumulate on shelving full cases are packed, labeled and palletized by title. Full pallets are scanned into the WMS to report on inventory. At project completion final inventory is reported to client. Completed inventory is stored at Touchpoint until needed by client. Outbound order requests are case picked same day and returned to client.
Results – Books are inspected and prepared for return to client in a short time span. Case packs are consistent and cases are labeled accurately. Finished inventory is held for client’s convenience until required.
